Sam Staton
Sam, a native son of the state of Texas, came to Florida in 1986, courtesy of the US Navy, from which he retired in 1994 as an Electronics Technician Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, he went to work for AT&T, retiring from there in 2019. He started playing the saxophone in 5th grade, continuing through High School. With the exception of 1972, when he performed with the Service School Command Band, Great Lakes, Illinois, he experienced a hiatus of 36 years - it seems that there isn’t much room in a nuclear submarine for a baritone sax. He began playing again in 2004, performing with his church orchestra, as well as the First Coast Wind Ensemble for 3 years, and the Morocco Shrine Dance Band for 12 years. He joined us during COVID, and is now in his second season with SACB.
